The Preservation Association's governing Board represents a cross-section of year-round and seasonal Beaver Island residents. It now includes the following people:

Bob Banville—longtime Island resident; pilot, builder, great chef, and owner of the Shanoule Bed and Breadfast; active in the Wildlife Club and Holy Cross Church; enjoys reading, bird watching, and humor.

Jon Foggmoved to the Island in 2001, after coming here every summer since 1956; retired President of Fogg Filler Company, now a gentleman farmer and vigorous outdoorsman; active in his church and community; PABI Treasurer.

Lisa Gillespieowner and operator of Beaver Gems Gift Shop; also works for the Beaver Island Boat Co.; active with school activities; loves boating and fishing; leads the Island’s 4th of July activities.

Judy Gallagherrespected educator and professor/dean emeritus of MSU; owns and operates Montaage Galleries; served on the Island school board & as township trustee; loves to cook & entertain; PABI President. 

Jacque LaFreniereLongtime Island science teacher; a natural scientist who observes and reports on the Island’s loons; records and reports Island weather; directs local theatre productions; PABI Secretary.

Joan LaFreniereborn and raised on Beaver Island; co-owner of Shanoule B&B; active in church and Holy Cross Altar Society; works at McDonough’s Market; tireless energy; knows everyone. 

Ken McDonald—retired  executive of Alticor Inc. and managing director of Quixtar; built Island home in 1992 and retired here in 2005. Active in local school and civic activities; avid outdoorsman.

Edna "Skip" McDonoughIsland resident for 50 years; highly respected owner of McDonough’s market; widowed early, raised 7 children and now enjoys 23 grandchildren; energetic and active in church and civic affairs.

Don TritschRetired engineering manager at Ford Motor Company; serves on Township Planning Commission; usher at Holy Cross Church; loves to snowmobile and build furniture; PABI Vice President.

Bob Tidmore—Worked over 35 years as a fire protection engineer; now a full time Island resident, he enjoys gardening, boating, grandchildren, and service to his church and community.

Ed Troutman—retired from Foremost Insurance Co. after 34 years as Senior Vice President of Claims; active in church and numerous charities; enjoys grand children; PABI Vice President.

Alden Walters—retired Chairman of Michigan National Bank Subsidiary Banking Co.; chaired many boards over his career; enjoys warmer climates for the winter; enjoys bicycling, kids & grandkids.

Sue Welkewife and mother of seven children; active in church and civic affairs; loves to swim and garden; entertains graciously and often and heads all PABI funding events.

 

Other Noteworthy Contributors

Over the years, many have served on the Board and/or contributed their advice, skill, equipment, time and energy to the Preservation Association and the Community Center project. The Board and Island Community are grateful to these many contributors, and if anyone has been overlooked, please let us know so that we might correct the oversight.

Current year-round contributors: Jack Gallagher serves the organization as the Board's pro bono accountant and lawyer, working with PABI's president and treasurer and the Charlevoix County Community Foundation; Bob Welke serves PABI as the Board's pro bono civil engineer; Sally Fogg is a lead advisor to the Capital Campaign and Events Committees; Michelle LaFreniere is the Youth Consortium representative to the Board.
